My children love putt putt. I, myself, had a wildly frustrating experience with minigolf as a kid and try to avoid it when possible. But when my kids were persistent in their ask to try out the putt putt golf course we drive by all the time, I relented.
It turns out, this was just the right fit for us. The holes we did were all par 2 and easy enough where no one (meaning: ME) felt overwhelmed.
We easily completed 18 holes with feelings of success and confidence in under one hour. Particularly for younger kids, this seems about right.
The Putt Putt Center in Charlottesville is very bare bones. It is simple and if you are envisioning large-scale tourist minigolf spots, as you might see in Myrtle or Virginia Beach, please set that aside.
The vegetation and course decoration are minimal. But the actual putting greens are in good shape – no tears or fading.
There isn’t much shade here and the only concessions available are vending machines. So if you go on a hot summer afternoon, take sunscreen.
But while it may be easy to dismiss this putt putt center because it doesn’t have fancy windmills or water features, I invite you to look again. Because it still worked really well for us. The size (and price) made it a quick, easy outing. And my kids were very satisfied with the experience.
The price seems right for this. It is $10/person to play both courses (each course is 18 holes) or $6/person to play just one course. There is no discount for younger ages. You can get discounts for packages and birthday parties.
This course feels like the right size for Charlottesville and a nice option to have!
