Pro Re Nata Brewery

Out in Crozet, close enough to hiking and on the way back from Wintergreen adventures, is one of our favorite family spots to stop, eat some juicy burgers, and try a new beer brew under the spring sun: Pro Re Nata Brewery.

Pro Re Nata Brewery is an outdoor dining mecca in a lot of ways. While inside houses a large seating area complete with large projection TVs that always have some sort of sports action on them, we find outside is where our real happiness is.

Pro Re Nata has a large area of picnic benches and seats, some surrounding fire pits, which are perfect for casual lounging and eating (which, with kids, casual is best). In front of the building, there is another large patio with even more picnic and bistro tables. There are so many wonderful places to relax outside, and even sneak a peek at some mountain views.

Pro Re Nata has made some updates and improved their outdoor space significantly just in the past few months. It is exciting to see what they’ve done and it makes us love it even more. We still usually opt for the large back area (where there is even now a stage!). The container-based building also in this area has a place to purchase beer and cider and, now tucked around the corner, is a playset that our kids have been known to spend some good quality time swinging from.

When it comes to food, Pro Re Nata makes it easy to make the family happy. In addition to their brewpub menu (which is ordered through their Hops Kitchen app) with delicious and creative dishes such as bacon-jam smothered brussels sprouts and juicy burgers with homemade chips, there is also a food truck or two on grounds. The Za Spot has a set up for outdoor ordering, too. Our entire family leaves Pro Re Nata full and happy.

Oh, and of course, there are BEERS to try here, as well as ciders. Pro Re Nata Brewery offers six beers on tap, as well as three hard ciders. What they brew is usually diverse and seasonal, and we always enjoy trying what the brewmaster(s) come up with.

Overall, this spot is just a great casual vibe, a solid choice to meet friends, and a hit with our family every time we go.
