Tom Sox Baseball

There is something so perfectly summer about baseball games. The dirt, the pace, the hot dogs, the between-inning hijinks… And the Tom Sox baseball games fall right in line. This casual, easy family-going experience will likely be a fond summer memory.

The Tom Sox is a college summer league that plays at Charlottesville High School in June and July. College players from all over the U.S. come to Charlottesville and take on other summer collegiate teams. The caliber of play is high, the talent strong, and the games are incredibly accessible for families.

In fact, for this summer entry to games has been completely free thanks to a donation from Carter Bank & Trust! That’s right – no charge.

Parking is easy, too (although watch those foul balls).

Families bring coolers – some bring blankets and lawn chairs and sit alongside the 3rd baseline or even out in the field, on top of the hill overlooking the entire diamond. There is something so magical about these nights.

Given its fairly small size, kids have a great time running around in search of foul balls. Players come into the stands for 50/50 raffles. Kids are plucked out of the audience to run bases between innings. And, above all else, it is so easy to watch the game because you are right there.

There are concessions available for sale. Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, bubble gum for 25 cents, and hot dogs are sold out of the concessions shed, perfect for a summer night.

Pets are even allowed at this stadium! So, really, this is a great opportunity for the whole family.

This particular season the Tom Sox are quite good, so it is even more fun to watch! And, lucky for you, there are still some games coming up on the schedules.

So grab some peanuts and Cracker Jacks and get on out and root for the (seasonal) home team!
